How do you travel for (almost) free?

travel and philanthropy
I sometimes travel for free. And while this has little to do with Philanthropy, sometimes it does. Because well, the less money I spend on travel, the more money I have to give away. And that's why I'm doing these 3 series Asking for a friend The Family Office and The (Almost) Free Travel Club. The better squared away my financial life is the more time and money I have to give.

So I take part in what some people call travel hacking. I sign up for credit cards for the generous bonuses, pay them off in full each month and use the points to get free travel. I would say I am moderately involved in this hobby but my friends might tell you otherwise. My favorite perk at the moment is having the earned the Southwest Companion Pass through 2018. The Southwest site describes it like this:
Companion Pass is the benefit that lets you choose one person to fly free* with you every time you purchase or redeem points for a flight. To qualify, simply fly 100 qualifying one-way flights or earn 110,000 qualifying points in a calendar year, and you’ll earn Companion Pass for the following full calendar year, plus the remainder of the year in which you earned it.

*Does not include taxes and fees from $5.60 one-way.
No I didn't fly 100 flights in one year to get this. There are other roundabout ways to get the pass. The ways to get this are always changing so google it up if you are interested or check out this travel course  it's excellent and free. I will just confirm that this is real and attainable even if you don't fly much.
